Stuart Zender needs no introduction from me at this point, his work with Jamiroquai speaks for itself. While i’m not in the camp that feels the band died when he left (I feel Nick Fyffe is hugely underrated by the Zender fanboys out there), I don’t think it can really be argued that the majority of what made Jamiroquai took place while he was in the band. I listened to this tune extensively and had to sit with it for a bit to get closer to his way of phrasing lines, which made for a very fun practice session!
There are more complex lines of his (I may or may not be working on Scam also…) but Too Young To Die has always stood out for me. It’s also a lot of fun comparing versions, there are some that are fairly true to the record and ones where the groove sounds nothing like it!
I felt I had to grab the Warwick for this, you can’t really replicate that ‘bite’ and growl with anything else! This one was recorded bass straight into the interface, nothing else in there!.
