For this week’s transcription i’ve gone into the Genesis back catalogue and while i’ve got a much longer song in the works, this line is a little more accessible and shows some of the little details that are part of Mike Rutherford’s bass playing.
Mike is one of those players that tends to have gotten overshadowed by some of the giants of prog rock (Geddy Lee and Chris Squire being the two big ones) but he comes up with the great bass lines. In this particular tune, it’s the articulations that really matter, specifically note lengths and the little slides to and from notes in the intro/chorus grooves!
