Bandcamp is one of my main sources for music, and often on the first Friday of the month they will waive their fees so that everything you pay goes directly to the artists themselves.
If you're really serious about supporting smaller acts, making a bandcamp wishlist and waiting for the next Bandcamp Friday to make the actual purchase is one small way to do it.
